Champaign, OH: Rivers and Roads
Been talking about the way things change…
Rivers and roads, rivers til I reach you…
(Rivers and Roads-The Head and the Heart)
Maybe one of the most beautiful songs, to me. In my head, it speaks to me about growing up, growing apart, growing back together, and all the stuff that happens to lead you back to the ones who knew you when, knew you best, knew you before you knew you.
Since my music festival weekend, with both an old friend, and a best friend who hasn’t known me as long, but feels like our friendship has spanned time, it has made me think about my past, my now, my future.
I like to say that I am nothing without my tribe, my people, my soul mates, my circle. And, it’s true. My life lessons, experiences, and journeys, have all been because of the people who have been with me, along the way.
Much like this little local market of love. We have watched it grow, we have helped it along, we have watched it mature, and we have loved it, each and every step.
Today, I was back at it, handing out orders for order pick up day. Customers were coming and going, and letting me know how much I had been missed, last week. Asked about my festival. Were excited to hear my tales.
It’s this kind of growing together that makes people strong, bonds grow, and it’s all of this, that makes up this wacky little market that we all love to support. A big blend of a family, of familiar friends, of a trusted market.
Rivers and roads…it’s the kind of stuff that gives us roots, let’s us fly, and then let’s us all land, once again, right where our circle, our tribe, our people are all waiting…
I am opening the market for another week! We welcome you, we encourage you to grow with us, and we love you for supporting us…
Peace, Love, Good Vibes…

Don’t miss this week’s recipe. We have three vendors offering fresh blueberries!
With summer upon us, high temperatures are also here to stay. This is the reason you may have noticed multiple coolers when you pick you your market order. While we would LOVE to be able to have every fresh picked item in a cooler, it is just not possible. So we’re asking that you come as early as as you can to pick up your orders for the remainder of summer. Heat is only a friend of fresh picked produce when you’re cooking it.
Lastly, an ANNOUNCEMENT – Meet your Farmer is back! Next week Jennifer from Sandspur Farms (and samples, and extra products for purchase!) will be with us during Market hours. Even if you don’t order come out – meet Jennifer, try some of her stuff and experience the genuine DIFFERENCE in sustainable food!

Hope everyone had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend, and a great week so far. I have been very busy around the farm, trying to finalize this summer’s garden. I have noticed some of you have gotten seedlings from The Veggie Patch, I love gardening and would love to hear about all the exciting things going on your backyards/gardens. So please feel free to share, I’m always looking to learn and exchange information!
This week has been all about chickens for me, we have some new baby chickens at the farm and it got me thinking about pastured Vs conventionally raised poultry. The USDA has so many labels such as “free range”, “free roaming”, organic… it can get pretty confusing. Bill, our “chicken guy” does a combination of pasture and supplements with a non-GMO feed. His “girls” (as he refers to them) live in portable tractors out in the field and are moved to fresh pastures every day. The combination of pasture and feed leads to a diverse fat profile, higher Omega-3 content and reduced saturated fat/overall fat; not to mention they taste better. Chicken is one of the most versatile ingredients you can have in your freezer, not to mention a good and healthy source of protein. Head over to the market and check out Bill’s inventory!

THIS WEEK…
We’re starting to see more summer veggies coming in this week. Look for Beans, Beets, Squash, Zucchini and even some Cherry Tomatoes online.
Did you know that all of our veggie farmers are within only 30 miles from Cumming? Cane Creek Farm, MJ Fruit & Veg, Weedy Soil Farm are all in Cumming. Heirloom Gardens grows from Dahlonega and Leilani’s Produce is grown in Dawsonville. We are very lucky to have these passionate growers so close to us and all growing sustainably. Support local farmers by making a point to purchase from growers that actually grow the food they sell.
Eggs We have a limited supply of eggs this week. Please limit your orders to no more than 4 doz per family.
Watsonia Farms has listed yellow clingstone peaches online. These are certified organic peaches, so they will need to be consumed or preserved within the first 3 days of pick up. Clingstone’s will be available through the end of June. Freestones are available from end of June through the end of August.
